Meet The Chef
Growing up in Egypt, Rafik Abohattab spent much of his time helping his mother and grandmother in the kitchen. He developed a fervent passion for cooking and pursued that interest with his first job— running a food cart in Cairo at just 17 years old. Fifteen years ago, he moved from Egypt to the U.S. with aspirations of living out the American Dream, working in several kitchens to hone his culinary skills. Having opened @torshi_nola at St. Roch Market in 2018, Rafik and his team have taken great pride in introducing Egyptian cuisine to New Orleans through a menu inspired his family recipes and techniques from his native country. A second location of Torshi has even made its way west to our sister food hall, Politan Row Houston, in fall 2019.
Torshi's loyal diners enjoy dishes familiar in Mediterranean cuisine with a distinctly Egyptian flavor: mezze fare, like hummus, baba ghanouj, and grape leaves; gyro, falafel, and shawarma as platters or pita wraps;

WOW! I cannot praise this restaurant enough! The owner and staff were so friendly and the food was outstanding. Our toddler was being difficult and they were so kind to get our silverware for us, bring us our food and even gave him a bottle of water when he was coughing on some parsley he swallowed. Our meal was was a simple dish yet it was freshly made and perfectly seasoned. My husband was planning on getting another meal in the hall but couldn't stop eating mine because it was so good. I wish I lived here so I could visit more. Thank you all so much for a wonderful meal!
